Ask which notice line you will pay. Full Street opens onto the cathedral quarter, so the first photographs can happen on the way out.

Best wedding photo locations in Derby
Derby Cathedral and the close
Derby Cathedral is All Saints, a cathedral only since 1927, when the Bishop of Derby's see was created. The body is James Gibbs's Georgian rebuilding, finished in 1725. The tower is 16th century. A retrochoir was added in the 20th century. The close is the portrait ground after Riverside Chambers. A service inside is arranged with the cathedral, not with the register office.
The Derwent beside the cathedral
The city stands on the river the mills later used. A few minutes on the bank after the Exeter Room keeps you in one area. It is not a substitute for the World Heritage Site up the valley.
Derwent Valley Mills and the river
The inscribed landscape is a journey from Full Street. Brick mills and water are the picture. Go only if the hours include the drive. Do not assume a public footpath is a booked shoot. Ask the site if you want more than a couple and a photographer passing through.
Derby history and landmarks
history of Derby is a unitary authority on the Derwent. It was the original county town. That status later moved to Matlock, and the city is administratively separate from the county council. The article gives a population of 275,344 in 2025. The photographs mix a Georgian church, a 1930s-to-2026 civic office, and an 18th-century industrial valley.
All Saints was a royal collegiate church from the mid-10th century. Gibbs finished the present body in 1725. Only in 1927 did it become a cathedral. That is why the quarter looks like a parish church promoted, with a 16th-century tower beside Georgian walls. Riverside Chambers is the new register office, opened in the building in February 2026, which is why older guides still name Royal Oak House.
The valley is the other Derby. Arkwright's spinning system started here, the World Heritage inscription came in December 2001, and the mills carried the factory form across Britain. A wedding picture there is industrial brick and water, not the cathedral close.
