The Benefactors Room at the castle
Ceremonies are in the Benefactors Room at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery, Castle Hill, NR1 3JU. The castle is a working museum and the room is private. Capacity is 50 people, including the two witnesses and a photographer if you have one. The couple and the two registrars sit outside that number. Outdoor ceremonies are not available. From autumn 2024 the ceremonies are back in the Benefactors Room, and the Colman Gallery is no longer used. If one of you wants to stay out of sight beforehand, there is a private space upstairs.
Times are on the hour from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Wednesdays run from 12pm to 4pm. Sundays are 2pm and 3pm. Agree that the photographer takes one of the 50 places before you finish the guest list. Small ceremonies in a working office are Monday mornings at the Archive Centre, County Hall, Martineau Lane, NR1 2DQ. Only the couple and two witnesses attend. A short register-office signing there is often covered in one or two hours. A photographer sent to the castle will be in the wrong part of the city if the legal ceremony is the Monday office. If the meal is somewhere else again, send that address and ask for the travel to be included.
Does our photographer take one of the 50 places in the Benefactors Room?
Yes. The 50 includes the photographer and the two witnesses. The couple and the two registrars are extra. Agree that before you close the guest list, or someone will be outside the room for the vows.
Can the ceremony be in the castle grounds?
Outdoor ceremonies are not available. The ceremony is inside the Benefactors Room. Ask what the museum allows that day for portraits afterwards, and book enough time if those portraits are part of what you want. The Colman Gallery is no longer the ceremony room.
What time do Sunday ceremonies start at the castle?
Sundays are 2pm and 3pm. Other days are hourly from 10am to 4pm, except Wednesday, which runs from 12pm to 4pm. Give the photographer that time and say how long you want them to stay after it.
How long covers a Monday morning at County Hall?
One or two hours usually covers the Archive Centre signing and a few pictures outside. It is Monday mornings, for the couple and two witnesses, at Martineau Lane, with parking on site. Do not send a castle plan for that day. The two buildings are in different parts of the city.

The Benefactors Room, your hourly slot, whether the photographer is inside the 50, and the meal address with the time you leave Castle Hill. Ask for the drive to be included or left out. From autumn 2024 the room is the Benefactors Room, not the Colman Gallery.
