Two witnesses, then the square
The register office is inside the Old Town Hall, St Paul's Square, MK40 1SQ. A statutory ceremony is for the couple and two witnesses only. No other guests are permitted. It is a basic ceremony in a busy working office. The fee is £62. If you book it, the place of marriage is Bedford Register Office, even though the building is the Old Town Hall.
The square in front of St Paul's is where the group photographs have to happen, because a statutory booking will not hold a crowd inside. There is no parking at the office. You can be dropped outside, and the town centre car parks are a short walk, so tell the photographer to meet you at the drop-off. Ask whether they can stand in the room or should wait on the square. A short register-office signing is often covered in one or two hours, including those pictures outside. The Old Town Hall as a ceremony venue, rather than the statutory office, is £404.80 on Saturday, which is a different number of people. Approved venues are £639.10 Monday to Thursday. If the meal is at one of those, send that address and ask for the travel to be included. The £62 booking fee on a register office booking is already inside the ceremony fee.
Who can be in the room for the £62 ceremony?
The couple and two witnesses. No other guests are permitted, and the room is a working office. Ask if your photographer counts as a guest. If they cannot be inside, plan the pictures on the square in front of St Paul's. One or two hours usually covers the signing and those pictures.
Where should the photographer meet us outside the Old Town Hall?
At a drop-off outside the Old Town Hall. Town centre car parks are a short walk. Say that in the note so they are at the square for the first pictures, not searching for a space at the office.
What changes if we book the Old Town Hall on a Saturday?
That is listed at £404.80, as a ceremony venue rather than the statutory office, so the guest count is not limited to two witnesses. Send the Saturday start and how long you can stay for photographs at the hall.
An approved venue is £639.10 in the week. What do we send?
The venue name, the hours, and whether you are also signing at the Old Town Hall. The £639.10 is the Monday to Thursday charge for an approved venue, not the photography. If there are two addresses, ask for the drive between them to be in the quote or left out.
The booking says the register office. Where is that for the pictures?
Inside the Old Town Hall on St Paul's Square. Use that for the statutory signing with two witnesses. A Saturday ceremony in the Old Town Hall as a venue is the separate £404.80 line, and it is a different photograph.
