The Gatehouse on Victoria Square
The register office in St Albans is at The Gatehouse, 1 Victoria Square, AL1 3TF, the former governor's house of a Victorian prison. The ceremony room is on the ground floor. The grounds include gardens and an 1840 siege cannon, and the original prison doors and walls are a backdrop for photographs. The room takes up to 60 guests, not including the couple or the photographer.
For 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, a register-office ceremony is £476 Monday to Friday, £612 for a weekday ceremony at 4.30pm, £612 on Saturday, and £661 on Sunday or a bank holiday. This office is not one of the You and Two locations, so the small Tuesday product used elsewhere in the county is not listed here. A short register-office signing is often covered in one or two hours, with the garden, the siege cannon, or the old doors as the portrait spot. The council asks for bubbles, or white or ivory fresh or dried petals, rather than confetti or smoke bombs. On a weekday, guests use public parking nearby. The couple's bays are numbers 37 to 48, and the vehicle has to be registered. At weekends and bank holidays there is more space at the rear, only for the length of the ceremony.
Does the 60 at the Gatehouse include the photographer?
Up to 60 guests, not including the couple or the photographer. The room is on the ground floor. Say you want them inside for the ceremony, then in the garden, by the siege cannon, or against the old prison doors.
How long should we book for a Monday at Victoria Square?
One or two hours usually covers the ceremony and a few pictures in the grounds. Monday to Friday is £476 until 31 March 2027. A 4.30pm weekday start is £612, the same council fee as Saturday, so give the clock time as well as the day.
Where do weekday guests gather for the group photograph?
In the grounds. Guests use public parking nearby, not bays 37 to 48. Those bays are for the couple, marked for the register office, and the vehicle must be registered on arrival. At the weekend there is more space at the rear, only while the ceremony is on, so the lineup has a limited window.
Is there a two-witness Tuesday price at the Gatehouse?
This office is not a You and Two location, so that Tuesday product is not listed here. Send the Monday to Friday, 4.30pm, Saturday, or Sunday fee that matches your confirmation, and the hours you want in the garden. Sunday or a bank holiday is £661.
The meal is away from the Gatehouse. What do we add?
The second address and the time you leave Victoria Square. Ask for the drive to be included or excluded. Sixty guests at the Gatehouse and a reception elsewhere are two locations. The photographer does not count in the 60.
