The Grant Room, once the registrar agrees
A civil ceremony in Aberdeen is performed by a registrar or assistant registrar. It can take place at many locations in the city, including the Grant Room in Marischal College, and religious buildings are the exception. No room-by-room ceremony price is published. To hold a date the registrar is conducting, you pay a £55 deposit, which is non-refundable and non-transferable. That deposit is not a photography fee. Until the room is confirmed, a holding note is enough. Once the venue is fixed, send the building, the start time, and how long you expect to be on the steps.
Marischal College is on Broad Street, AB10 1AB. There are steps up to the Grant Room, and a wheelchair lift as well. Say if the group will use the lift, because that changes where the photographer stands for the arrival. The multi-storey is described as open to the public from Thursday to Sunday, with Gallowgate, West North Street and Frederick Street car parks nearby, so a Thursday and a Sunday are different meeting points. A short register-office signing is often covered in one or two hours, ceremony plus a few pictures outside. If the meal is at a second address, put that travel in the quote.
Send the confirmed building
Name the venue the council has agreed. If it is the Grant Room, say whether the group uses the steps or the lift, and how long you want outside on Broad Street. If the registrar is coming somewhere else in the city, that address is the one to send, with the hours and any drive on to the meal.
Is the Grant Room the only place we can have the ceremony photographed?
The council says ceremonies can be at many locations, and it names the Grant Room as one of them. Religious buildings are excluded. Send the confirmed venue. For Marischal College, the address is Broad Street, AB10 1AB.
What should we do with the £55 deposit when we ask for a price?
Treat it as the council's non-refundable, non-transferable hold on the date and time. It is not a room tariff and it does not buy photography. Ask for one or two hours if you only want the signing and a few pictures on the steps, and send those hours in writing once the room is confirmed.
Will everyone reach the Grant Room the same way?
There are steps up to the Grant Room, and a wheelchair lift is available. Mention any access needs so the photographer knows whether the group will use the lift or the steps. Those are two different arrival pictures.
The meal is not at Marischal College. What should the quote include?
The ceremony building, once it is confirmed, the start time, and the meal address. Travel between them should be written in. Say whether you are meeting via the multi-storey, open to the public Thursday to Sunday, or via Gallowgate, West North Street or Frederick Street.
