Tuesday in the Tolkien Room, or the Dexter Room
If you are marrying in Oxford, a statutory marriage or civil partnership in the Tolkien Room is on Tuesday. From 1 April 2026 the fee is £62, and the same table keeps £62 from 1 April 2027 and from 1 April 2028, with the table effective until 31 March 2029. The statutory ceremony takes the couple and two adult witnesses only. Children and other guests cannot be accommodated. There is no flexibility on the start time at the Oxfordshire District Register Office.
The Dexter Room is the larger ceremony room. Classic ceremonies from 1 April 2026 are £433 on Monday to Friday at the advertised times, and £548 on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm. Thursday slots are 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Enhanced ceremonies, outside those advertised times, are £545 on Monday to Friday from 1 April 2026. You pay the fee in force on the ceremony date, and full payment is required when you book the registrars. If the photographer meets you at a college or a hotel, that is an approved-venue booking. Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, is £760 from 1 April 2026, and the venue hire is extra. The legal room is the one on the booking. A Tuesday statutory signing is often one or two hours if you add a few pictures outside.
Who can come into the Tolkien Room?
The couple and two adult witnesses. Children and other guests cannot be accommodated, and the start time stays fixed. Ask the office before you assume a camera can stand in that room. A larger group belongs outside, or in the Dexter Room if that is the booking.
What is the Tuesday charge from April 2026?
£62 in the Tolkien Room. The table keeps £62 from April 2027 and from April 2028, until 31 March 2029. The Dexter Room classic rate from April 2026 is £433 on weekdays at advertised times, and £548 on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm.
Which Thursday times use the classic fee?
11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm in the Dexter Room. Times outside the advertised list are the enhanced rate, £545 on Monday to Friday from 1 April 2026. Send the exact time so the quote is distinct from a statutory Tuesday.
Do we pay the enquiry-day price for the Dexter Room?
You pay the fee in force on the ceremony date. Ceremonies on or after 1 April take that April's figure, and full payment is due when you book the registrars. The photography note should name the Tolkien Room, the Dexter Room, or the approved venue.
What if the ceremony is an approved venue at a college or a hotel?
That is an approved-venue booking. From 1 April 2026, registrar attendance on Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, is £760, and the venue hire is extra. Send the college or hotel name. A staircase is the legal room only when the booking says so.
