Bootham Suite, the Minster, or the walls
The council's ceremonies site lists a statutory signing at £62, two witnesses only, with limited availability. The Bootham Suite takes up to 50 guests: £345 from Monday to Wednesday, with Thursday to Saturday and Sunday on higher lines. A non-refundable deposit of £50 comes off the balance. The council usually revises fees in April, and the fee you pay is the one in force when you pay it. Book the suite, then send the photographer the suite name, the guest count, and the time.
York Register Office and the Minster are different bookings. If the ceremony is at the Minster, say the Minster. Work at the suite does not set the price for the Minster, or for a hotel outside the walls. A statutory signing with two witnesses is a short job. A short register-office signing is often covered in one or two hours, ceremony plus a few pictures outside. A Bootham Suite ceremony plus an hour around the walls or the river is longer. Put that hour in the request if you want it. A reception beyond the walls needs its own address, the guest count, and the travel.
We only have two witnesses. What are we booking the photographer for?
The statutory ceremony at £62, if that is the slot you have, plus the time you want outside afterwards. One or two hours often covers the signing and a few pictures. Say how many minutes you want, and ask for it as a small piece of work.
The ceremony is at the Minster. Do the Bootham Suite fees apply?
Lead with the Minster. The register office fees do not apply, and the timing and the pictures belong to the Minster. The photographer needs that building, the guest count, and whether you also want an hour at the walls or the river.
We want an hour around the walls after the Bootham Suite. What do we add?
The hour, and the month. A summer Saturday in the centre is slow with a wedding party. A weekday is simpler. The suite holds up to 50 guests, so send the headcount as well. The quote should include that hour.
The meal is outside the walls. Is that extra travel?
Name the venue and the time you need to be there. Leaving the centre is the travel line, even when the map makes it look short. Write the gap, especially on a Saturday, and the guest count.
Fees change in April. Which Bootham Suite figure do we plan with?
The one on the ceremonies site when you pay. £345 is the current Monday to Wednesday line. Thursday to Saturday and Sunday sit on higher lines. Check again if your date is after the next April revision. For the photographer, send the suite, the guests, and the hours, including any time in York after the ceremony.
