A Wednesday morning at the library
Torbay Council's register office for this ceremony is inside Paignton Library and Information Centre, Great Western Road, TQ4 5AG, opposite the bus station. The statutory fee is £74.50, and it includes the room, the registrar and one marriage certificate. Only two witnesses may attend. The published times are Wednesday at 10:00, 10:30 and 11:00.
A photographer who is not one of the witnesses is outside that limit, so the pictures are before or after, on Great Western Road, or in whatever time you have before the next couple needs the room. Three ceremonies can sit in the same morning. If you are the 10:00, the 10:30 couple will need the room. One or two hours often covers a short signing and a few pictures outside. Say which time you have, and how long you want the photographer to stay after you leave the library.
Cockington Court is a different address
The council also has a ceremony room at Cockington Court in Torquay, which is a different building and a different fee. If your day is the library, the brief should say Great Western Road and the Wednesday time, not the court. If the meal is somewhere else, send that address. In holiday season, coastal traffic is a reason to arrive before 10:00 even when the slot is 11:00, and to ask whether travel between the library and the meal is in the quote.
Can the photographer come into the library ceremony?
Only as one of the two witnesses. The council says only two witnesses may attend this £74.50 ceremony. Otherwise plan the pictures on Great Western Road, before or after your Wednesday slot.
Which of the three Wednesday times should we send?
10:00, 10:30 or 11:00. Name the exact one. The next ceremony may need the room half an hour later, and that gap is the window for portraits. The fee includes the room, the registrar and one certificate.
How many hours are fair for this two-witness signing?
One or two hours is often enough for the ceremony and a few pictures outside the library. Book more only if you want the photographer to travel on to a meal, and put that second address in the enquiry.
Is a Cockington Court booking the same job?
No. That ceremony room is in Torquay. A library Wednesday should be briefed as Great Western Road, TQ4 5AG, opposite the bus station. If you have booked the court instead, say so, because the fee, the guest list and the pictures are different.
