Cheapest month and day to get married in the UK, for wedding photography

The October 2026 price survey behind this site does not split wedding photography prices by month or by day of the week. This guide does not name a cheapest month for photography, because that figure is not in the survey.
What the Office for National Statistics does publish is when people in England and Wales marry. In 2022, 43.6% of marriages were on a Saturday. The single busiest day was Saturday 30 July, with 3,608 marriages. Christmas Day was the quietest, with three marriages. Those figures are from the ONS bulletin Marriages in England and Wales: 2021 and 2022, released 20 June 2024. The same bulletin says the South East had the largest share of marriages that year, 16.4%.
What a busy Saturday means for the diary
A Saturday in late July is when the most ceremonies were registered. It is also when a photographer's Saturday diary is most likely to be full. The survey still has no Saturday price and no weekday price, so a quieter date is not a measured photography discount. Weekday weddings can still be easier to book. The price difference you can check in the survey is the length of the coverage, not the name of the month.
The saving the survey does measure
A full-day digital-only package has a UK median of £1,500 (n=2,057; middle half £1,195 to £1,900; surveyed 4 October 2026). In the survey a full day means stated hours of 7 or more, or a package the page calls a full day when the hours were not verified, with no album, second photographer or video flagged. A half day of 4 to 5 stated hours has a median of £850 (n=836; middle half £650 to £1,100). Elopement or register-office coverage of 1 to 2 stated hours has a median of £450 (n=511; middle half £350 to £597).
The full-day median and the half-day median differ by £650. That is a gap between two published medians, not a discount tied to January or to a Thursday. The rules are on the methodology page, and the national table is on the wedding photographer cost page.
Match the hours to the celebration
A register office and a meal can sit inside a half day. A ceremony, portraits and an evening party usually need the full-day band. If a winter date or a weekday makes the celebration itself shorter, the photography figure to compare is the shorter package. How many hours of wedding photography do you need? sets the bands out on their own.
Local full-day medians still vary. Examples from the same survey: Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Edinburgh. Photographers covering the South East are listed on that region page. The ONS share of marriages and this site's photography median are separate counts, so one does not explain the other.
