You Plus Two, with everyone else outside
The You Plus Two ceremony is the couple, two legal witnesses and the registrars. Extra guests wait elsewhere. They are not allowed into the ceremony room or the waiting area, so plan the greetings and the photographs for outside. It is available on Mondays and Thursdays, not including bank holidays, at £62. Each certificate is £12.50, and you pay in full when you book the registrar. The contacts page lists Chelmsford Library, Market Road, CM1 1GE. A finding guide also describes a temporary move to County Hall, Market Road, CM1 1BS, with the registration rooms on the second floor and no customer parking at County Hall. Confirm which door is current before you send anyone to the library steps.
Ask whether your photographer counts as an extra guest. If they do, they cannot be in the ceremony room or the waiting area, and the useful pictures are outside whichever door is current. A short register-office signing is often covered in one or two hours, including those pictures. A ceremony at Hylands House, or another licensed venue, is a different booking, with the venue's own hire on top of the registrars. The photographer needs that address.
Can our photographer wait in the corridor at You Plus Two?
Additional guests are not allowed into the ceremony room or the waiting area. Ask if the photographer is treated as a guest. Plan the first pictures outside, at the door the council confirms, either the library at CM1 1GE or County Hall at CM1 1BS.
How long covers a Monday or Thursday You Plus Two?
One or two hours usually covers the £62 ceremony and a few pictures outside. It is Mondays and Thursdays only, excluding bank holidays. Say which Market Road entrance is in use. During the refurbishment described in the finding guide, the registration rooms are on the second floor at County Hall.
Which Market Road door do we use for the portraits?
Confirm the current one with the registration service. The contacts page lists the library, CM1 1GE. The finding guide describes County Hall, CM1 1BS, second floor. The station is a short walk from County Hall in that guide, and High Chelmer is the car park it names.
We are marrying at Hylands House. What should the quote say?
Hylands House, the start time, and the hours. That is a different booking from You Plus Two, and the venue's own hire sits on top of the registrars. If you sign at the office and celebrate at Hylands, send both addresses and ask for the travel to be included.
What do we send once the Monday or Thursday slot is held?
The door, the start time, and whether the photographer is inside or outside. Say if you want the pictures at the library steps or at the County Hall entrance.
