Henry Bell on Tuesday morning
From 1 October 2017 the Henry Bell Room replaced the Robert Hyde Room as the statutory room in Stockport. The venue page, updated on 8 April 2026, limits it to you and two witnesses, and says you should choose a larger room if you have any other guests or a photographer. The cost is £74.50, including one marriage certificate, on Tuesday mornings only. A booking fee of £40, including VAT, holds the date and is not taken off the ceremony price. A short Tuesday signing is often covered in one or two hours, ceremony plus a few pictures outside.
The Robert Hyde Room is £145 Monday to Thursday, £175 on Friday and £235 on Saturday morning, including one certificate, for you plus 12 guests. The Sir A. Brumwell Thomas Room is £205 Monday to Thursday, £295 on Friday and £360 on Saturday, for you plus up to 55 guests. The Town Hall also licenses the marble staircase, the council chamber and the ballroom. Registrar fees for the staircase, the committee suites and the council chamber do not include room hire. Check both numbers before you say the stairs are booked.
Stairs only when that space is hired
Marble-staircase photographs are a separate hire from a Henry Bell signing. Tell the photographer which room is booked so they do not arrive equipped for 55 guests. If the meal is elsewhere, send that address and the time you leave.
Can a photographer be in the Henry Bell Room?
The council says the room is you and two witnesses, and that a photographer is a reason to choose a larger room. The fee is £74.50 on Tuesday mornings, including one certificate. Plan the pictures outside that room unless you have booked a space that allows guests.
